The Girls has announced its closing date after a 5 month run in London. The show will play its last performance at the Phoenix Theatre on Saturday 15th July 2017. The musical comedy by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth started its previews on 28th January 2017, with an official opening date of 21st February.
The good news is that the show will embark on a 42 venue UK Tour starting in August 2018 at the Leeds Grand Theatre in Yorkshire, where the show performed before opening in London. All tour venues and cast are yet to be announced.
The Girls tells the story of a group of ladies from a Yorkshire Women’s Institute who pull together to raise money for a new hospital settee in memory of John, who passes away. To achieve this, John’s wife and her best friend convince their friends to take part in a nude calendar. The show follows the women, their children and partners and the amazing things they achieve together.
The show opened to good reviews (you can read my review here) and was nominated for ‘Best New Musical’ at the Olivier Awards along with Debbie Chazen, Sophie-Louise Dann, Michele Dotrice, Claire Machin, Joanna Riding and Claire Moore being nominated for ‘Best Actress in a Musical’.
